Recorded by my partner, who was out walking the dog, too close to the road again. I hear three motorcycles and a passing car. As usual, the guy with the smallest engine was working it the hardest.

This sound was recorded while driving down the road on my way to school while it was raining. I was traveling between 0 and 60 miles per hour. So there is a variation in the intensity of the rain falling against my car. As-well you gain a slight acknowledgement to the acceleration of my engine.

There are many cars, vehicle on the street. The street is very noisy, we can hear the engine of the car and behind the street, there are some elder people talking and doing exercise.

Underhood recording of my renault 19 with oldish carburetted cleon engine (c2j). Double barrel webber 32 drt carb ~72ps engine. Start engine, tire skid, hard acceleration up to 6000 rpm and coast down to idle, several times. Throttle blips up to 7000 rpm. Mic: sony ecm-ds30p stereorecorder: sony mz-n707 mini disc, sp mode, agc: off. Wanted to test this cheap mic and custom made windscreen - this is my first car recording, and that's why i started with this cheap microphone, don't want to learn on expensive stuff. Still, i'm amazed how the recording turned out, it's $24 mic in not very silent area, yet it captured sound rather nicely. Windscreen (cost $0) turned out to be not that good :).

This is a toyota supra on a chassis dyno being revved to the max. It has a turbo on it and you can hear it whining. It gets extremely loud to the point of distortion, but it will be a great sound for somebody who needs an engine rev without the vehicle passing by.

This is the engine rumble sound i recorded in stereo with 2 m-audio pencil condenser mics through pro tools. It is the sound of a 1971 or 72 plymouth duster that i used for scenes in a music video i recently filmed.

Recently we purchased a scale from ikea, when we finally got around to using it we realized that it must be off, as i do not weigh 240 lbs. As we did not have a receipt, or the desire to drive 2 hours to return a $10 scale the only course of action left to me was to take the damn thing apart and record its insides. (what else?). I recorded and edited together around 7 and a half minutes of various configurations and performances of me making some sort of repetitive, engine-like sound. I can foresee myself using these sounds for an old-timey engine or car. Recorded with a rode ntg-3 at 96/24.

The sound of an electric van operated by la poste in france (national mail service) in quiberon in august 2020. This e-van is obviously silent. One can spot the sound of a gravel stuck in one tire, louder than the engine itself. This was recorded on a tascam dr-05, 16bits 44. 1khz by me.

This is a clip of various engine sounds recorded on my 2003 subaru impreza wrx with a 3" turbo-back exhaust system. The audio starts with the engine at idle and includes a few engine revs at different rpms. You can hear some turbo whistling and also some rattling of god-knows-what parts. It's a little muffled (kind of a muddy sound), but could be used as part of an action sequence or with a music track laid over. I was looking for the sound of a hot engine clicking and found just one with lots of background noises. So i decided to build it from scratch in bitwig studio and this is it. The sound starts with fast clicking slowing down. It's not perfect, you can still hear it's made from samples. But as the sound is normally used at low volume, i think i can get away with it. Feel free to add a gate and shape it even further. I may upload an updated version later.

This is a recording taken by a tascam dr-40 interal mics mixed with external sennhesier me-66. Tascam recorded rear exhaust of a stock fr-s on a dynojet while sennhesier recorded engine bay. Mixed to generate what it was like to stand in the room at the side of the car.

I drove my car into a wall; and recorded the proximity alert from it. I then washed it through audacity; slowed it 23%; and trimmed the edges. The result? -chilling. A few indistinct gulps cool the atmosphere a little more. It's not the making of a corpse - but it sounds a bit like it?. Recorded late at night in my car by my home with the engine off in fog - so the sound is 'hollowed' by the atmosphere. Recorded using a sennheiser mke300 'shotgun' mic. Over 3 minutes of loud motorcycles streaming by revving their engines plus sirens and horns during an insane motorcade of bikes and choppers that temporarily took over streets of the westside highway. Sirens are not police but are from bikes in the motorcade. Recorded circa 1983, onto a memorex 120 tape, using a transistor radio/tape recorder (ghetto blaster) with built-in left & right microphones. 20 seconds is all that remains extant on what was longer at one time. Here we hear a german public bus approaching a snow-covered stop from the right, stop, and continue shortly thereafter. The engine is a prominent part of the recording. Towards the end, a second public bus passes in front of the mic in the opposite direction before the first one continues to the left towards the next stop.

Rode nt4 mic with a rycote wind muff on (slight attenuation of the higher frequencies is noticeable to my ears) sitting on a chair under an awning on my porch. I hit record slightly too late to catch the first couple of bell rings, but got most of it. First we hear the church signal 8pm, then we hear the courthouse do the same thing. Also some wind in the trees right above the mic, some rain, a bit of thunder, and some cars in a small town. Also a huge truck with loud engine that sounds almost like thunder towards the end, in fact it was mixed with thunder at one moment. Captured with maudio delta1010lt soundcard.

I recently contributed a track to a triple lp set of krautrock cover versions ("head music 2", released by fruits de mer records, december 2020). The song i chose to cover was kraftwerk's "autobahn". If you know the track, you'll know that it uses synthesised traffic sounds alongside recordings of the same. On my version, i achieved these in three ways:. 1) i downloaded some public domain traffic sound effects from elsewhere here on freesound. Org (thanks, guys!). 2) i got in my car with my zoom recorder and made my own recordings of the engine starting, stopping, etc. 3) i made my own sound effects using virtual synths and effects in ableton live 10. This particular sound falls into the third category. Let me stress that while the song "autobahn" is copyrighted, these are isolated sound effects and are not covered by copyright. I'm making them available here under a public domain licence. If you download and use any of these samples, please let me know in the comments what you did with them. It's not compulsory but it would be interesting to know what people did with these sounds.

The sound of a car starting engines on the street. The sound was captured using two beyerdynamic mc-930 setup for stereo recording using x-y positioning. Preamp used was avalon ad-2022. Usb interface used was audient id22. Raw sound recorded in stereo at 96khz.

Trying to start a 1983 volvo 245 after a stop at a gas station. First we hear the seatbelt warning signal after the driver turns the ignition on. The first start attempt fails. The two following attempts fail because the starter fails to engage with the flywheel, creating a very loud and unpleasant sound. There is some reverberation from the metal roof of the gas station. At 00:24, the driver remarks "he's doing it again!". The fourth attempt succeeds in starting the engine after a rather long cranking. We then drive off and we also hear some squeaking from the steering wheel. Throughout the recording we hear breathing noises from the driver (80 year old man, smoker). The recording was made in the front passanger seat with the window open, that's why there a very noticable difference between the left and right channel. Recorder: edirol r-09, 48khz wave/24-bit, cropped with cool edit pro, re-saved as 48khz wave/24-bit and compressed with flac. No other pp. Edirol r-09 settings: low cut: off, mic gain: low, agc: off.
